The Annual Holiday Train Display at The Western Pennsylvania Model Railroad Museum has officially returned for the season.
Tucked in Gibsonia, the model railroad museum offers limited hours throughout the year. However, its busiest time of the year is, arguably, during its Annual Holiday Train Display.
This year's holiday display will run through January 12, 2020, and offers a unique way to spend an hour or two.
The Western Pennsylvania Model Railroad Museum, run entirely by volunteers, takes visitors back in time to the 1950s, where they can get a look at what life — and the railroad — was like in the mid-20th century.
Boasting more than 6,000 feet of track, the museum's model trains bear the name Mon-Valley Railroad, a fictitious railroad.
In fact, the Mon-Valley Railroad is based on local railroads from Pittsburgh, Erie, and Western Maryland.
For a unique experience, visit on open Friday evenings during the holiday season for the "Steam at Twilight." The museum transforms into a smokey evening in 1952, as the lights are lowered for a fascinating experience.
Add a trip to the Annual Holiday Train Display to your to-do list. Go here for a list of operating days and hours.
Visitors are asked to give a $10 donation for adults and a $5 donation for children (11 and younger) during the Holiday Train Display show.
