Psst...we Pennsylvanians have a little secret that many out-of-staters don't know. We don't have to hop aboard a plane for exotic lands to play away the day on a sandy beach. All we have to do is head to one of the many beaches at our state parks. While it may surprise some that PA's home to a plethora of beautiful beaches, we're all pretty familiar with them if we live here. But, have you heard of - or been to - this hidden beach in Pennsylvania?
Discover a hidden gem when you travel to Parker Dam State Park, home to a pristine sandy beach that leads into the clear, cool water of Parker Lake.
Pack everything you need for a relaxing, safe trip at the beach in the 986-acre state park that's flanked by the lush, towering trees of Moshannon State Forest.
Of course, you'll want to find the perfect spot to drop your beach towel or to set up your beach chair and umbrella on the soft sand.
Then soak up the rays, read a good book, snooze, or build a magnificent sand castle.
When you get hot, run into Parker Lake, which tallies a mere five feet until the buoy line.
Getting a bit anxious to be out on the water instead of in it? Rent a kayak, a canoe, a paddle boat, or a rowboat between Memorial Day and Labor Day each year.
Carve out some time to visit the rest of the state park, too, such as Parker Dam. Or go hiking, have a picnic, or pitch a tent for the night.
Getting hungry? Stop by the snack bar at the beach which is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day (weather permitting).
The beach at the 20-acre Parker Lake welcomes swimmers and guests from the end of May through mid-September. Visit between 8 a.m. and sunset.
