Getting away from it all doesn't necessarily mean packing a suitcase, booking a flight and a hotel, and heading out of town or out of state. Sometimes you can just get away from it all for a few hours, connect with the pristine beauty of nature and return home refreshed and inspired. This little slice of paradise in Pennsylvania promises just that.
One of Pennsylvania's natural wonders, the Seven Tubs Natural Area in Wilkes-Barre, draws visitors in with its sheer beauty. The seven tubs are, in essence, gorgeous potholes that were formed by glacial water that caused erosion in the mountain's bedrock.
Take precautions when walking and hiking the nearly two mile trail loop. Sturdy walking shoes are encouraged as some spots on the trails can become slippery - and bringing bug spray along is a good idea.
A dip in one of the beautiful tubs will cool you down on a hot summer day.
Some daredevils ride down the natural slides. Before facing the slides, be prepared to possibly get tossed around a bit as the rushing water can be unpredictable.
As you wade in the cool tubs, you may spot some native birds and wildlife, including deer, foxes, and opossums.
The 500-acre natural area's main masterpiece is Wheelbarrow Run, the stream that runs through the tubs.
