Watching the snow tumble down on a cold winter night, where the only light is of the moon shining on the glittering snow, is simply magical. It's one of the many ways that winter in Pennsylvania showcases its spellbinding beauty. When you're up for an adventure outdoors, plan a visit to this natural wonder in Pennsylvania after a snowfall to learn the true meaning of a winter wonderland.
Nestled within Pinchot State Forest in Wilkes-Barre, Seven Tubs Nature Area draws visitors for its breathtaking natural tubs.
While it doesn't really conjure such beautiful images as tubs, the tubs are really potholes carved out of bedrock. Make no mistake, though. These natural tubs are gorgeous in every season.
Spanning 400 acres, the nature area is best viewed along a scenic hiking trail, such as the two-mile Audubon Loop Trail, which scores a moderate rating.
Bundle up (dress for the weather), and wear sturdy hiking boots because you'll face challenging terrain that includes roots jutting from the ground, fallen trees along the path, and some steep climbs.
Some hikers consider the trail easy, especially using poles, but you'll really have to decide for yourself after you've completed it. Beware that the ground can get extremely icy and slippery, especially the closer you get to the tubs and the waterfalls.
The trail can get really busy in the summer, but you might not run into quite as many people in the winter.
This is one trail that really requires a camera or a smartphone.
After all, it's home to countless tubs, streams, and...
Waterfalls, made even more beautiful sprinkled with snow and surrounded by ice.
Seven Tubs Nature Area during the winter really can't be topped, but plan a visit in spring, summer, and fall, too. It's a beautiful destination all year round.
