Beautiful days are meant for enjoying one of the many beautiful scenic drives in Pennsylvania. After all, the many backroads and scenic byways that travel across the state give us a peek into so much natural beauty and history - from sprawling farmland to historic towns. Even just an hour behind the wheel gives us the chance to drink in some of Pennsylvania's beauty.
1. Scenic U.S. Route 6
Tallying more than 400 miles, Scenic U.S. Route 6 in Pennsylvania meanders from Pymatuning Reservoir to the New York State line. That makes it really easy to explore portions of the beautiful road, or you can even conquer it in one epic road trip. The famous road passes a ton of destinations, including Pymatuning State Park, Cherry Springs State Park, Pine Creek Gorge, and Historic Honesdale. Plan your trip along Scenic U.S. Route 6. 2. Bucktail Trail Scenic Byway
Gas up the car for a leisurely drive along the 100-mile Bucktail Scenic Byway, a gorgeous stretch of road that journeys along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, through Elk State Forest and Sprout State Forest, and to the darling town of Renovo. 3. Conestoga Ridge Road
Carve out at least a few hours for a leisurely drive along the 81-mile Conestoga Ridge Road, a recognized scenic byway in Pennsylvania. 4. Longhouse Scenic Byway
Clocking in at just 36 miles, Longhouse Scenic Byway packs a whole lot of beautiful scenery in a relatively short span. The byway passes through Allegheny National Forest and features several scenic overlooks. For spellbinding views, stop at Jake's Rocks. It's also the perfect spot for a leisurely picnic. 5. West Branch Susquehanna Byway
Cruise nearly 75 miles along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, which boasts quite a few must-visit destinations. It passes McGee's Mills Covered Bridge, Curwensville Lake Recreation Area, and the Pennsylvania Wilds. Plan your drive along the West Branch Susquehanna Byway.
6. Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway
Meandering 68 miles through Western Pennsylvania, the Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway boasts an abundance of natural beauty. (It's particularly gorgeous in the fall.)
