A trip to the largest zoo in PA, Elmwood Park Zoo, promises a whole lot of magical moments. You might even feel like a kid again as you wave to your favorite animals, sink your teeth in a deliciously sugary goody, and maybe even soar among the treetops. The only questions really are: When will you go to the biggest zoo in Pennsylvania, and what will you do first?
Occupying 17 acres in Norristown, Elmwood Park is a picture-perfect day trip destination.
With more than 300 animals across 100 species, this zoo is home to all of the favorites of the animal kingdom - from peacocks to jaguars.
As you wander through, you're sure to find all of your favorite animals, many of whom have their own quirky personalities.
You even have the unique opportunity to feed the bison or the giraffes. A separate, nominal fee is required, but it's well worth it for this one-of-a-kind experience.
Elmwood Park also offers unique behind-the-scenes encounters with some of its most popular residents. Otters, sloths, and giraffes are among the current encounters. You can even have a snack with Pokey the porcupine.
A separate fee and a reservation are required for animal encounters.
The animals are, hands down, the star of the zoo, but a ton more fun awaits, too. Ride the carousel. Watch the kiddos at the playground, or get your face painted.
If you're a fan of high-flying thrills, head to Treetop Adventures at the zoo. Take on the challenge course, and soar 50 feet above the ground of the zoo on the zipline.
Satisfy that gnawing hunger and thirst, too, at one of the snack stations. You can't go wrong with a piping hot slice of pizza or an ice cream cone.
Elmwood Park Zoo welcomes visitors all year round, and it hosts a variety of fun, family-friendly events in all seasons - from Halloween to Christmas.
View days, hours, and more information on the official website of Elmwood Park Zoo. Or, stop by the Elmwood Park Zoo Facebook page.
