The Franklin House Tavern has been a part of Schaefferstown for centuries, starting out as The King George, a hotel that catered to weary guests. Eventually, it transitioned to the George Washington before becoming the Franklin House Tavern.
Originally built in 1746, the building underwent a renovation and expansion in the mid-1800s. However, to this day, the Franklin House Tavern still has its original walls.
History whispers throughout the tavern that is currently open for takeout only due to the pandemic. (Be sure to make plans to visit to experience the enchanting ambiance when indoor dining reopens.)
The Franklin House Tavern’s menu offers something for everyone, whether you’re in the mood for classic pub fare, or you’re yearning for a hearty entrée.
Kick off your meal with a classic starter – the wings or the nachos, for example – or try such favorites as the fried pierogis, the mini crab cakes, or the shrimp cocktail.
If it’s pub fare you’re craving, you have quite a few choices – from the traditional fish and chips to the meatloaf sandwich. Burgers, wraps, and subs are also on the menu.
You’ll definitely want to be good and hungry, or be prepared for leftovers, when you order one of the scrumptious entrees. Filet mignon Oscar or grilled New York strip steak, perhaps?
Whether you have a hankering for steak, seafood, or pasta, you’ll find just the right dish to satisfy that craving. All entrees come paired with two sides, such as salad and house-cut fries, of your choice.
