The Wallowa Lake Tramway is the most visited attraction in Joseph.
Enjoy views of Wallowa Lake and the surrounding Eagle Cap Wilderness on this four-person gondola. The ride lasts for about 15 minutes and ascends 3,700 feet to the top of Mt. Howard. It is open May - September.
Once you reach the top of Mt. Howard, you'll be treated to breathtaking views in all directions.
There is a series of short, walkable trails that lead to stunning views of the mountains, lake, and canyon lands. If you're hungry, The Summit Grill is a lovely place to grab lunch or a drink.
Downtown Joseph is quaint and charming.
The peaceful streets are lined with bronze statues, hanging flower baskets, and chic restaurants and shops.
Joseph is the center of the Northwest bronze industry.
While you're in town, make sure to pay a visit to Valley Bronze Gallery and Foundry. You can take a tour and learn about the art of bronze sculpture making.
Old Chief Joseph Grave Site and the Iwetemlaykin State Heritage Area can be found one mile south of Joseph.
Chief Joseph was a Native American leader of the Wallowa Band of the Nez Perce during the first half of the 19th century. His remains were moved to this sacred Nez Perce site in 1926.
If you keep driving south, you will hit Wallowa Lake State Park.
One of the most popular state parks in Oregon, Wallowa Lake offers plenty of fun outdoor activities for the whole family. Apart from the amazing views, campers and day visitors can enjoy fishing, nature trails, swimming, canoeing, and even horseback riding.
You will most likely run into a deer or two around Wallowa Lake.
This park is delightfully known for its population of tame deer. Chipmunks and other small animals can also be spotted roaming around.
