Plenty of Oregonians are familiar with Oregon Museum of Science and Industry. Commonly known as OMSI, this one-of-a-kind place is filled to the brim with interactive exhibits and fun for the whole family. However, not many people know about one of the best experiences OMSI offers. When you’re ready for an unforgettable adventure, go ahead and step aboard the USS Blueback, a historic submarine used by the US Navy during the 20th century. Take a look:
Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is located right on the waterfront in Portland.
While there are plenty of fascinating exhibits to explore within the museum, one of the best attractions is actually outside.
The USS Blueback is a historic Navy submarine used to complete missions throughout the 1960s-1980s.
The sub was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.
This one-of-a-kind historical locale offers visitors the chance to tour a preserved submarine.
Tour groups are offered throughout the day, taking visitors around the control room, torpedo room, as well as the kitchen and sleeping quarters.
If you're in the mood to treat your little ones up for an unforgettable adventure, sign them up for the overnight submarine adventure.
This incredible experience will let 3rd-12th graders sleep in the crew's quarters, peer through a periscope, and learn about density and buoyancy.
Submarine Overnights include dinner, snack, and breakfast, as well as a planetarium show and museum admission the following day.
An overnight stay on the USS Blueback costs $58 per person and reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance.
