What sound says Oregon? Rain, of course! From a pitter-patter or gentle mist to a downpour, it's music to our ears. Plus, when the rain breaks, we get to hear the happy buzzing of bees and melodious chirping and tweeting of birds.
Sure, we Oregonians often complain about the rain. As in, will it ever stop raining? But I think some of us secretly love it, too. And it definitely doesn't cramp our style or keep us from going outside. In fact, it could be argued that rain is a true Oregonian's love language. Just like the many ways to describe snow, when you know rain as intimately as we Oregonians do, there are lots of ways to talk about — and listen to — all that water.
There's the drizzle, the misting, the sprinkle, the shower, the downpour, the onslaught, the torrential rain, and the mother of them all, the atmospheric river. Knowing how to distinguish between a sprinkle and a shower is truly a matter of state pride.
Plus, all that rain is a big part of what makes the Beaver State so special. You don't get known for stunning waterfalls, rushing rivers, lush green forests, verdant meadows, and abundant farmland without a whole lot of rain! Plus, there's nothing like a few days of downpours to make you really, really appreciate every moment of a sunny one.
Whether you're an adult or a kid, stomping in puddles and listening to the splish, splash is just plain fun!
Do you use an umbrella or just make a run for it?
All that rain makes for stunning wildflowers each spring.
Many people find the hypnotic, rhythmic sound of rain soothing. It can even help you sleep.
Watching and listening to raindrops hit the windows can be relaxing, too.
And after an onslaught of rain, we get rainbows. And we all like the sound of that!
Rain is a reality in Oregon, so why not embrace it — or even think of it as a hidden gem?
