Baker City is one of the largest towns in eastern Oregon, but it's still a rather small town of only about 10,000 residents.
The historic districts and historic Main Street in Baker City are quintessential small town America at any time of year, but this little city is especially charming at Christmastime.
So many of the businesses and homes in Baker City decorate for the Christmas holiday. You can have a lovely winter day simply window shopping and taking it all in.
There are lights, sparkles, bows, and greenery everywhere, all over town.
One of the biggest holiday events in Baker City is the Christmas parade. Everyone in town comes out to watch.
There are dozens of vehicles adorned with lights and countless smiling parade participants who wave to families and friends on the route.
At the end of the parade, the giant Baker City Christmas tree is lit, and everyone cheers.
The tree will remain lit as a town centerpiece for the entire month of December.
There are lots of other fun Christmas events to do in town, too. Every year, CASA of Eastern Oregon sponsors the CASA Classic Christmas Gingerbread Tour of Homes. Many of the gingerbread houses are designed to look like famous, local, historic buildings in Baker City.
You can also take a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the center of town when there's enough snow!
In nearby Sumpter, the Sumpter Valley Railroad runs a Christmas Train with Santa, if you're interested in a fun ride like that.
