There are so many ways to beat the heat in Oregon, from epic tubing and floats down our wondrous rivers to swimming in waterfalls and, of course, the Pacific Ocean. Man-made destinations for summer fun include indoor waterparks, reservoirs, and, as you'll soon see, a man-made lake that's also an amazing Oregon swimming hole.
In Northwest Oregon, there is a marvelous, man-made lake that's truly one of the best hidden gem swimming holes in Oregon.
This is Henry Hagg Lake, a 1,153-acre lake that's a favorite for many people wishing to take a refreshing dip in its crisp, cool, cerulean-blue waters.
This lovely lake was actually man-made in the 1970s. The reservoir is an impoundment of Scoggins Creek, which drains a small portion of the eastern side of the Northern Oregon Coast Range.
The lake, which has an average depth of 51 feet, is comprised of two sections: one for swimming and one for motorized vessels, which keeps each area safe for its respective recreation.
The area, managed by the Bureau of Reclamation, features numerous picnic areas, two boat launching docks, a fully-stocked lake for fishing, more than 15 miles of hiking trails, observation decks for birding, and ADA-compliant facilities.
On a hot day in the PNW, there's nothing better than enjoying the calm, cold waters of this man-made lake, which is a superb summer day trip for the entire family!
The next time you're looking for a place to cool off -- minus the crowds -- you'll be happy to know about this glorious man-made lake and swimming hole in Northwest Oregon.
Have you been to this man-made lake and swimming hole in Oregon before? Henry Hagg Lake is a beautiful hidden gem that's incredibly refreshing when the mercury rises.
