With temperatures on the rise, the days of chowing down on hearty, filling meals is long gone and we're now in the mood for something cool and refreshing. Like ice cream. Great thing about Oregon ice cream in particular is the attention to detail paid by so many ice cream makers all over the state. Many shops make it themselves, using local and often organic ingredients. So here are some spots that we think you'll love.

Looking for a tasty treat, without the dairy? This all-vegan, gluten-free shop dolls out some amazing scoops and soft-serve cones - all dairy-free.

21) Bend Creamery
The makers behind Bend Creamery freeze each customer's ice cream to order with liquid nitrogen, resulting in a fresh and creamy texture.

20) BJ's Ice Cream, Florence
When you're heading to the coast, this is one spot you need to check off your list. Ice cream's made in-house, there's a giant selection of salt water taffy and, hey, while you're at it, throw in a Cannoli.

Using locally-sourced, organic ingredients whenever possible makes all the difference in the world for this Portland spot.
This banana split looks good enough to eat right off the screen.
18) Cool Moon Ice Cream Co., Portland
This Pearl District shop specializes in unique flavors like Indian Kulfi, made with pistachio, rose water, and cardamom, cherry almond chip, and Thai iced tea.

Sometimes a no-frills spot like this is just what you need. Fans love the price point, saying you get a lot of ice cream for your money.

For when you want to create your own frozen, yummy masterpiece.

15) Fifty Licks Ice Cream, Portland
Whether you find these guys in their ice cream truck, roving the town, or inside their brick and mortar location, you won't be disappointed. Tip for the over-21 set, we hear their boozy floats are amaaaaazing.
Hand-churned, making for a velvety, rich flavor.
14) Jem 100 Ice Cream Saloon, Newberg
Great selection of burgers to go with your ice cream. Great combination for a hometown favorite spot.

Obviously, the name says that this place is about all things sweet. Featuring homemade fudge, taffy, and other sweets, this is a favorite among locals.

One of several beach town candy shops, this has a little bit of everything for your sweet tooth.
10) Osburn's Ice Creamery, Cannon Beach
Known for their Hawaiian coffee, hot and cold drinks, and ice cream, this spot by the beach is sure to refresh.

9) Prince Puckler's Gourmet Ice Cream, Eugene
This classic ice cream shop is a favorite among U of O students... Once you stop in, you'll understand why.
8) Red Wagon Creamery, Eugene
Not only do you get unique flavors like the pickled cherry blossom ice cream with Papua New Guinea cacao nibs, pistachio gravel, and cherry smoked honey (pictured here), you can even buy shares of this popular shop. Talk about being part of the go-local movement.
7) Rose's Ice Cream, Portland
This special place has been a Portland mainstay for more than half a century. Must be doing something right with their house-made ice cream.
6) Ruby Jewel, Portland
This place goes for inventive flavors like, Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp, Black Forest Cake, Mexican Chocolate, Sweet Cream with Bourbon Caramel Sauce, and Horchata Ice.
5) Salt & Straw Ice Cream, Portland
This is the type of place you'll be waiting in line for, but with its wild flavor pairings like Viking Soul Food's Goat's Milk and Lingonberries and Potato Champion's Poutine, it's definitely worth the wait.

4) Serendipity Ice Cream, McMinnville
This vintage-feeling shop in downtown is a favorite among locals.

3) Tillamook Cheese Factory
Really, anything that comes out of Tillamook is great, whether its sharp, savory cheddar or silky, sweet ice creams.
2) What's the Scoop, Portland
Using locally-sourced ingredients in small batches, this spot gets points for its ingenuity in the flavor department and for its low key, authentic profile.

1) Zoey's Cafe & All Natural Ice Cream, Ashland
You know this is an Oregon ice cream shop, with flavors like Oregon bing cherry, Oregon trail, and black raspberry cheesecake.
