Located on the Oregon coast near Florence, The Hobbit Trail is just as magical as its name implies. This easy, 1-mile (round trip) hike will lead you though a lush, ancient forest before opening up onto a secret beach.
The trail begins at a small, easy-to-miss parking lot on Highway 101 between Yachats and Florence. There are a few different trail entrances here; you'll want to hop onto the Hobbit Trail. As you venture into the hushed, canopied woods, you'll be amazed at how the rest of the world seems to disappear. Here are a few photos taken along the trail on a foggy day.
As you walk through the thick old-growth forest, you may question whether you've somehow stumbled into Middle Earth. Ancient, mossy trees twist gracefully in all directions, and the lush foliage even creates a natural tunnel that you'll venture through before the trail opens up onto the incredible Hobbit Beach.
This serene hidden beach offers spectacular views, and it's a great place to take a peaceful walk along the seashell-speckled shore.
If you feel like taking a longer hike, you can follow a 2-mile (slightly more difficult) trail to Heceta Head Lighthouse. Here you'll find an incredible, historic lighthouse as well as jaw-dropping views of the coast, and of course, the wide-open sea.
You won't soon forget a hike along this beautiful trail.
