Oregon is famous for its stunning waterfalls, and we certainly can't get enough of them. Recently, we've discovered a new favorite waterfall, and this one has a sweet surprise.
The Candy Basket has been in business since 1914, and the company produces the most delicious chocolates, confections, and saltwater taffy you've ever tried. While the candy is downright delicious, you probably have no inkling about what's hiding inside this innocuous building.
Many businesses have fountains or even small waterfalls in their lobbies. The Candy Basket has its very own chocolate waterfall!
Like something straight out of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, this 21-foot-tall waterfall is a cascade of Guittard chocolate. It looks and smells absolutely amazing.
Just in case you didn't learn from the gluttonous characters in Roald Dahl's book, you shouldn't attempt to slurp this chocolate from the fountain. The 2,700 pounds of liquid chocolate have been flowing through the fountain for several years, and let's just say that it's not exactly edible at this point.
Luckily, you're standing in the entrance of an entire store full of chocolate!
The large cases inside the outlet store are filled with hand-dipped chocolates of every imaginable kind.
The homemade caramels are one of the best sellers here, and you'll see why if you ask them for a sample.
You'll have to nibble the chocolate walnut fudge just a little at a time - it's so rich and chocolatey.
You can even get chocolate-covered potato chips here!
There's also an entire Oregon area, dedicated to Oregon-specific products. You'll find candy bars with beautiful Oregon photography on the wrappers, as well as Oregon saltwater taffy, and Bigfoot-themed chocolate.
Visit Candy Basket's Factory Outlet Store to see the chocolate waterfall, and to shop for decadent chocolates. It's located at 1924 NE 181st Ave.
Portland, Oregon, and it's open seven days a week.
