Talimena State Park is only 20 acres, making it the smallest state park in the state but it's packed full of beauty. It's located at the entrance of the Talimena Scenic Drive, just a short distance from the town of Talihina, and is in the Ouachita National Trail area of the Ouachita Mountains. This state park might be tiny but it's quite mighty and is a hidden gem worth exploring.
Talimena State Park might only be 20 acres in size but it's filled with outdoor recreation and beauty to impress any outdoor enthusiast. The park only brings in about 7,000-8,000 visitors every year, but those who visit are in for a treat.
The state park boasts stunning views of the surrounding scenery. It's located at the entrance of the Talimena Scenic Drive, so we highly recommend you take the drive after visiting the park.
The state park is located on the western side of the Ouachita National Recreation Trail. There are parking lots where you'll find signs for hiking trailheads.
There are five hiking trails in the state park ranging from moderate to hard. Most of them connect to other trails in the area and the longest one is Boardstand Trail which is 34 miles long.
You'll also find a nice little playground and covered picnic area. It's a great spot to visit if you have little kids that want to get out and play.
Camping is allowed in the park but reservations must be made online. There are 10 RV sites with hookups, 7 tent sites with pads, and several other spots where you can "unofficially" pitch a tent.
