It's hard to find crystal-clear creeks, lakes, or swimming holes in a state rich in red dirt. Sure, Oklahoma has some beautiful spots to spend the day out on the water but it's not very often you find places you can see way down below the surface of the water. I'm the kind of person that likes to see what's swimming below me when I'm in the water, which is why I love swimming in Spring Creek, specifically at Littlefields - a privately-owned campground and day-use area on the shores of this pristine creek.
Check it out below:
Spring Creek begins in Delaware County near the town of Kansas, Oklahoma, and flows 34 miles southwest through Cherokee, Delaware, and Mayes Counties until it flows into the Ft. Gibson Reservoir.
Spring Creek is listed as high-quality water (only five bodies of water in the state have this high quality) and is found to be free of harmful levels of pollution. It runs through private and public land and can be accessed at several spots along the banks, including at Littlefield's.
Littlefield's at Spring Creek offers primitive camping, so there are no restrooms or electricity but they do have porta potties for your convenience.
Just look how clear and gorgeous the water in the creek is. You can see all the way down to the bottom of the creek!
If you enter the creek from Littlefield's they charge you to park, not swim. You will be swimming at your own risk. The price is $10 per day per car and $5 night per car (cash only).
Spring Creek water temperature ranges from around 50 to 75 degrees. The combination of cool temperatures and crystal-clear water make Spring Creek's swimming areas perfect for recreational activities.
They are open 24/7 during the summer months, so don't worry about operating hours. They do get busy in the summer, so try and visit during the week instead of weekends, if at all possible.
