Tucked away in a walnut grove in Norman is one of Oklahoma's best-kept venue secrets - Thunderbird Chapel. This charming chapel is surrounded by century-old trees on land acquired in the Land Run of 1889. The soaring wood arches and surrounding landscape make this chapel the most beautiful setting for your next special event or wedding day, but also one of Oklahoma's best-kept secrets.
Thunderbird Chapel was built in 2005 and is located at 11395 OK-9 in Norman. It's nestled off the road in the middle of trees, so you won't see it until you turn off the main road. It doesn't look like a chapel from the inside but just wait until you see the inside.
Step inside this gorgeous chapel and you'll be in awe at the magnificent wall of windows and stunning wood arches.
This place is magazine-worthy and is the perfect place for a wedding or special event. It boasts a cozy ambiance and picturesque views out to the walnut grove.
The chapel seats up to 130 guests. There are 13 pews on one side and 12 on the other. The windows allow so much natural light to flow in and it's quite spectacular.
At the venue location, you'll also find a reception hall that can fit up to 130 guests comfortably. The cathedral ceiling and large picture windows make for a beautiful setting.
Back outside is a lovely courtyard surrounded by huge native walnut and cottonwood trees. There are also benches and a flagstone patio. This setting creates the perfect backdrop for your wedding day photos.
Thunderbird Chapel is one of the most breathtaking chapels in Oklahoma. The next time you or someone you know is looking for a garden wedding or venue for a special event, be sure and visit this unforgettable chapel.
