There is no shortage of fun to be had around Cincinnati. There are enough unique options throughout our city to fill up your calendar as much as you like. I recently spent some time in Over-the-Rhine with my family and we enjoyed an evening at OTR Funplex, a one-of-a-kind destination for a variety of activities for all ages. The storefront is on Race, not far from Washington Park and offers 3 floors of fun with escape rooms, a smash room, karaoke, birthday party offerings, and what we tried - splatter painting! I have been wanting to try this new trend in fun and it did not disappoint. It was messy, silly, creative, and oddly enough, stress-relieving. And splatter painting in Cincinnati at OTR Funplex is just the beginning of the fun to be had for all ages.
OTR Funplex is located in the heart of Over-the-Rhine and could easily be a part of an afternoon or an entire day spent in the neighborhood. Peruse Findlay Market and grab breakfast, relax at Washington Park, book a couple of experiences at OTR Funplex, then wrap it up with a meal at one of the many OTR eateries.
Or, OTR Funplex is worthy of its own visit given it has so much to offer. You can stop in during open hours just to grab a drink and play a few games.
The Board Game Lounge does not require a reservation, so stop by Thursday or Friday evening, Saturday or Sunday. Exact times can be found on the website, linked below.
They have a drink menu that includes fun and tasty drinks for both adults and kids! My daughter loved her Candyland drink before we headed to the Splatter Room for some painting.
The Splatter Room is located on the 3rd floor of this historic building, so keep in mind that you do have to climb stairs to reach it. Once you reach the rooms, you'll put on a poncho, leg coverings, and goggles to keep the paint off of you. But don't worry, even if some paint does get on you or your clothes, it easily came off of us with soap and water.
When they opened the door to the Splatter Room for me and my two kids, our senses were totally rocked. Check out all of that color! The mess! The fun! We loved it. And the best part? The mess wasn't at my house.
You get 30 minutes in the Splatter Room to curate your creation. Each person gets a white or black canvas (multiple sizes are available), and there are several colors of paint, as well as painting tape if you really want to get creative on your canvas.
30 minutes was plenty of time and we had a blast listening to music, painting our canvases - and each other... and the walls. It was such a unique experience. And the Splatter Room can accommodate 2-8+ people, so it's great for a child's birthday party, a date night, a work team activity, or really anything you can think of.
When we were finished painting, we stopped in one of the private rooms that can be rented out. These rooms have karaoke and you know we had to try that out, as well!
And we really just scratched the surface because OTR Funplex also has escape rooms, slime making parties, cocktail/mocktail crafting, and of course the Board Game Lounge.
Having lived in Cincinnati my entire life, I'm always looking for new things to try. OTR Funplex was perfect for trying something new and unique and we can't wait to go back and try the other activities it has to offer. Whether you are looking for a place to host a birthday party, event, a unique date night, girls' night out, or fun family time, OTR Funplex has you covered.
