The Olde Jaol Steakhouse and Tavern in Wooster, Ohio is a true historic gem that's perfect for a special evening out. Between the unique atmosphere and the delicious cuisine, you're sure to remember your visit here. Take a look at this historic jailhouse restaurant in Ohio:
What was once the Wayne County Jail is now a special restaurant that both locals and visitors alike can't get enough of.
This is definitely one of the most unique restaurants in Ohio. You'll find it at 215 N. Walnut St., Wooster, OH 44691.
The jail was built in 1865, so it has a long and interesting history behind it. For more than a century, it housed the police department and the criminal population of Wayne County.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department was relocated across the street in 1977, according to the restaurant's Facebook page.
The building was officially registered as a historical landmark in 1980. In 1995, it was purchased and transformed into the unique restaurant it is today. (You can even dine in the former cell rooms, if you wish.)
Fun fact: The building is recorded as the very last site for a public hanging in the state of Ohio, according to the restaurant's Facebook page.
On the menu, you'll find a wide variety of cuisine. There are several upscale options in the Steakhouse such as the Filet Mignon (pictured), but you'll also find plenty of casual options on the Tavern's menu.
The Steakhouse hours of operation are Monday – Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday - Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Just don't forget to save room for dessert—because it's truly divine.
The Tavern is open Monday – Thursday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday - Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight. Both the Tavern and Steakhouse are closed on Sundays.
