There are many places in Ohio that have stood the test of time. At the top of the list is the Deersville General Store. Opened in 1898, this beloved establishment has more than a century's worth of history, fond memories, and hospitality. Setting foot inside this designated National Register of Historic Places site feels a bit like stepping back in time -- in the best way, of course. Here's more on what you can look forward to when you visit the Deersville General Store.
Welcome to the Deersville General Store!
The photo below, taken in 1901, shows the extensive history of the building.
In 1898, the building was converted from a church into a general store.
Step inside and you'll be delighted to find this shop carries a little bit of everything, true to its general store identity.
From home goods to personal items, pantry staples, and even fishing gear, this is your one-stop-shop.
It's also the kind of place where you can stop by for some delicious Ohio home cooking. Photographed below is a generous helping of homemade sausage gravy and biscuits.
You can even pick up a pizza loaded with all of your favorite toppings to take home for dinner.
Of course, one of the most famous treats to get from the Deersville General Store is ice cream.
In fact, some believe this to be the best ice cream in Ohio! You'll have to order up a cone or a scoop to test that theory for yourself. Flavors include all the traditional ones plus fun varieties like Root Beer, black raspberry, birthday cake, toffee crunch, and more.
What's even more impressive is the fact that all the ice cream is made on-site with a machine from the 1940s!
Even on a rainy day, you'll be tempted to step inside this welcoming store to pick up a few necessities (and also some sweets!)
Have you ever set foot inside the Deersville General Store? What did you think? We'd love to hear all about your experiences -- be sure to leave a comment below! For more information, you can follow the Deersville General Store on Facebook.
If you can believe it, the Deersville General Store isn't even the oldest general store in Ohio! That title belongs to End Of The Commons General Store.
