Just slightly south of Cleveland is a historic town with a big personality. It feels tiny and quaint, but the years have attracted a greater population to this pretty community - and who can blame them?! There's so much to love about Medina, Ohio. In addition to being an excellent day trip destination, Medina Square is also home to the coolest hobby train shop near Cleveland. This old school business is one of a kind, something that is far less common than it used to be... but, boy, do locals love it. Check it out, and plan a visit for yourself:
Historic Medina Square is something like a living model train set.
This quaint community is actually home to about 26,000 residents, but it hasn't let go of that small-town feel. Victorian architecture reigns throughout the Square, and beyond that are historic homes that highlight the growth and changes this community has faced.
Ormandy's Trains & Toys is a hidden gem in Medina Square, specializing in quality train toys from familiar brands like Lionel and Marklin.
This quaint store has been in its current location since 1989, and it is the place to go for new toy train parts, as well as for repair services.
Ormandy's is, according to their website, a Lionel Factory Authorized Service Center. This super cool shop is an awesome place to go to get that train running again, whether it's to share your long-time joy with a youngster or to set it up around the Christmas tree.
Located on the West side of Medina Square, this specialty shop carries all the best brands out there.
Even if you don't know what you're looking for, there's something here that will bring out your inner child.
And just one floor above Ormandy's is the Medina Toy and Train Museum if you have an interest in exploring the wonder of old school toys.
Unfortunately, as this museum is up a flight of stairs, it is not handicap accessible. However, this quirky, donation-based museum is well worth a visit if you can manage the staircase. There's much to see, but the old model trains doubtlessly take center stage.
You never know what you'll find in this local gem of a shop. It's always worth swinging by!
Oh! And one more thing worth mentioning. The owner of Ormandy's is also intertwined with Cleveland's history.
Medina is a little bit south of Cleveland, but one local article asserts that Mr. Ormandy opened the first automatic transmission repair shop in The Land. In addition to serving the grownup population, that some shop purportedly repaired toy trains. How cool is that?!
There is so much to discover in Historic Medina Square!
This incredible hobby train shop near Cleveland is well worth a visit. There are so few places like this left in Northeast Ohio, but visitors to this day are awed by the selection at Ormandy's. Pay a visit yourself, and don't forget to visit the museum upstairs.
Love history? Lyme Village is another community that's well worth a trip from Cleveland.
