Sometimes we can't help but give in to the pressure from our sweet tooth. Those of us that have a sweet tooth know the struggle—when our taste buds are in the mood for something sweet, there's no stopping the candy cravings. Fortunately for us, there is one delightful candy store that's represented all throughout Greater Cleveland that locals can't get enough of.
Malley's Chocolates has long served up sweet treats that Clevelanders love.
In fact, many locals consider their signature pink silos to be a landmark in The Land.
But few places are as iconic as the original Malley's Candies store located at 14822 Madison Avenue in Lakewood.
The store was celebrated at the time of its founding as the first all-aluminum retail store in the nation.
This charming destination was actually the second-ever location opened up by Albert "Mike" Malley.
The first location was opened in 1935 at Lewis Drive and Madison Avenue. Despite the influence of the Great Depression, Malley thrived, opening his second ice cream parlor and chocolate store by 1949.
According to local legend, the police had to be called in to control the crowds on opening night.
This adorable chocolate shop—all decorated in the classic Malley's color scheme—is undeniably petite. Their old-fashioned soda fountain is only large enough to cater to about 100 customers at a time, so it is not hard to imagine eager Clevelanders flooding the sweet shop on its opening night.
Today, their old-fashioned soda fountain is as magical as ever.
Since 1994, an Alice in Wonderland themed mural has added a wondrous flair to the dining area.
The dreamy ambiance is accented by the flavors of their mouthwatering ice creams and Famous Fudge Sauce.
As a general rule, always order extra fudge. It's super decadent, but between dipping your pretzels and drowning your ice cream, it never hurts to have a bit of emergency fudge on the side.
So whether you're craving a Cleveland classic like assorted chocolates...
...Or an incredible chilly treat on a sunny day...
This picture-perfect vintage candy shop is awaiting your visit.
For decades, Malley's Chocolates has served up chocolate classics and introduced locals to innovative flavor combinations. Though much has changed over the years, this iconic little ice cream parlor in Lakewood still perfectly captures the charm that Mike Malley originally envisioned. What sweet treat do you usually go for at this charming ice cream parlor?
For another iconic landmark, look no further than this epic candy store in Cleveland.
