There are many haunted places in Ohio, including overnight destinations. Are you brave enough to stay at a haunted bed and breakfast near Cleveland? Pack your bags and prepare for a trip you’ll never forget… if you dare.
Medina is a city located just 33 miles outside of Cleveland, and it was formally founded in 1818, seven decades before the Spitzer House was built.
Located just down the street from the world famous Root Candles factory is an enchanting bed and breakfast that was erected in 1890. Like much of the surrounding community, this edifice is stunning, colorful, and historic… and haunted, according to some.
This dreamy destination boasts two cherrywood staircases, several stained glass windows, and a number of ghostly residents.
The home was built for General Ceilan Milo Spitzer, an individual whose ancestry is intertwined with American history. Way back in his family tree, a great, great (insert several more "greats") grandfather, Hendricks Cornelius Van Buren, fought in the Indian War of 1663. If the name Van Buren sounds familiar, it’s probably because President Martin Van Buren and Ceilan Spitzer share a common ancestor in Hendricks Cornelius Van Buren!
All the rooms in this inn are lovely and cozy, but two in particular have a reputation for being haunted.
Ceilan’s Room and Anna’s Room are both warm and welcoming, but you might not be the only being staying in the room that night. In fact, you might be bunking with one of the inn’s resident spirits!
The reported hauntings in Ceilan’s Room are said to be the general himself…
Full body apparitions of what is thought to be Ceian Spitzer appear in the room and around the area, a creepy occurrence that’s paired with other activity like pokes and prods from unseen hands, cold spots, slamming doors, and even disembodied voices.
Anna’s Room is said to be haunted by a servant girl, and some say spirits linger around the other rooms, as well.
Anna’s Room is a great place to spend an eternity – a cozy four post bed, a gas stove, and an en suite private bath make this room particularly cozy. However, the identity of the servant girl appears to be a mystery, though she seems to enjoy interacting with visitors.
The Spitzer family stayed in this home for decades – could it be a family member that causes ghostly laughs and disembodied conversation to echo off the walls during memorable evenings and friendly breakfasts?
The laughs of a young girl are said to be heard with some frequency in this lovely home. Some sources claim that a piano is played by unseen hands and that two unseen men appear to be having conversations from time to time.
