There’s nothing that quite compares to reconnecting with nature. Northeast Ohio is a charming blend of urban jungles and natural spaces, and locals are enamored by the atmosphere of our unique scenery. Both the cityscape and the area’s finest parks provide opportunities to enjoy the outdoors on foot or by bike, but biking can be a challenge if you do not have the space to keep a bike… right? The fact of the matter is that the loveliest communities in the area feature some incredible bicycle rental shops that will let you tackle the great outdoors in style.
1. The Broadway Cyclery (665 Broadway Ave., Bedford)
The Bedford Reservation is home to the Bedford Singletrack - Friendship Trailhead, and the folks over at The Broadway Cyclery couldn't be more enthused to help you get out on the trail. They know that the Cleveland Metroparks are home to some incredible trails and mountain biking opportunities, but the Bedford Singletrack is truly one of the best.
2. Blimp City Bike & Hike (1675 Merriman Rd., Akron)
With a name like Blimp City Bike & Hike, you just know that the team of experts awaiting your visit understand your needs. You can even rent a tandem bicycle if you're feeling romantic or spontaneous! Their shop is right by the Sand Run Metro Park, offering incredible scenery on top of pleasant service.
3. Electric Pete’s E-Bikes (331 S Main St., Akron)
Downtown Akron is a startling world when compared to Cleveland, as this smaller city has a totally different atmosphere. It's worth biking through downtown or hitting the local stretch of the Towpath Trail. You may just become an electric bicycle convert.
4. Punderson State Park (11755 Kinsman Rd., Newbury)
There is a unique selection of bicycle rental options throughout the Ohio State Parks, which is a pleasant surprise for local adventure seekers. Punderson State Park is a treat in any season, and Punderson Manor appears to be a real-life fairy tale. You'll want to contact the Park Office for rental information.
5. Bike Ohio (8576 E. Washington St., Chagrin Falls)
Bike Ohio knows that urban biking is often as rewarding as a trip through nature. Their close proximity to Frohring Meadows and Downtown Chagrin Falls allows for adventures in both locales. The prairie habitat of Frohring Meadows contrasts brilliantly with the historic charm of the more urban areas of this community, and bicyclists can't resist the allure of both prospective adventures.
6. Spin Bike Shop (14515 Madison Ave., Lakewood)
Lakewood's many neighborhoods are brilliant biking destinations! This local shop rents not by the hour, but by each day, so it's the perfect opportunity to take a weekend trip along Lake Erie's coast. This shop is just blocks away from Lakewood Park, and Edgewater Park is just around the corner.
7. Century Cycles (1621 Main St., Peninsula)
Peninsula is an absolutely darling community to bike or hike through, and the neighboring Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a mountain biker's dream come true. This incredible national park hides countless trails and off-road attractions, and Century Cycles is just close enough to its expanse for an unforgettable adventure.
8. Eddy's Bike Shop (25140 Lorain Rd., North Olmsted)
For 75 years, locals have turned to Eddy's for their cycling needs. This incredible local shop sells and services bikes, and they offer four convenient locations to connect area residents to local trails. The North Olmsted shop is particularly coveted, as it is located close to the famous Rocky River Reservation. This beautiful park is traversed by its namesake river, offering a unique variety of habitats for visitors to admire. Even if you simply bike along Valley Parkway (and many do prefer this route), you're in for a visual treat that will bring you closer to nature.
