1. Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve, 8701 Lakeshore Boulevard, Cleveland
Though it is located on a manmade peninsula, this 88-acre park is overflowing with natural beauty. It features over a mile of Lake Erie shoreline as well as over 2.5 miles of trails, and it houses several diverse habitats which attract a variety of birds. Pack binoculars in your picnic basket, because after you eat you'll want to partake in the bird-watching opportunities this lovely nature preserve offers.
2. The Chagrin Waterfall near 67 Main Street, Chagrin
This ravishing waterfall is located right off of Main Street in the charming village of Chagrin, located just east of Cleveland. This urban wonder is located just below Main Street Bridge, not far from a dam that attracts waterfowl and spectators alike. Pack a lunch and spend the day immersed in the beauty of this historic region.
3. Chippewa Lake,7597 Ballash Road, Medina
Off of Chippewa Lake is an enchanting park managed by the Medina County Park District. Chippewa Lake, a beautiful glacial lake that was created some 14,000 years ago, is among the largest inland lakes in Ohio. It stretches for over 160 acres, tantalizing the eye with spectacular scenery.
4. Blossom Music Center, 1145 Steels Corners Road, Cuyahoga Falls
Pick up tickets for an upcoming performance at Blossom Music Center and relax on the grass with a picnic. This is a particularly fun date night destination, as you can enjoy dinner, a show, and nature all in one setting.
5. Princess Ledges, 4361 Spruce Avenue, Brunswick
This perfect little park features luscious wildflowers and greenery as well as striking sandstone ledges. This park feels fairly private, as it is tucked away from the busy city and is never crowded.
6. Lakeview Park, 1800 West Erie Avenue, Lorain
A historic rose garden, a gazebo, a beach. Take your pick, because each romantic location is present in this coastal park. Oh, and did I mention stellar views of the Lorain Lighthouse?
7. Lakeview Cemetery, 12316 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland
While picnicking in a cemetery might initially seem morbid, the grounds of Lakeview Cemetery are in actuality unrivaled in terms of beauty, history, and serenity. Visit historic monuments between snacks, and be sure to bring lots of water, as you will likely be doing a good deal of walking.
8. Brecksville Reservation, 9000 Chippewa Creek Drive, Brecksville
Over 3,000 acres span this lovely park, and they lay waiting for you to explore. Walk the Buckeye Trail to find a pristine patch to spread a blanket, or sit alongside Chippewa Creek to drink in the wonders of this urban getaway.
9. Viaduct Park, corner of Willis Street and Taylor Road, Bedford
There is much to keep you entertained between bites of your PB&J at this breathtaking location. A waterfall, viaduct, and the ruins of an old mill speckle the landscape with a sort of rustic beauty.
10. Sandy Ridge Reservation, 6195 Otten Road, North Ridgeville
This wetland spans over 300 acres, and it is surrounded by ancient beach ridges. Next to its stunning natural habitat, its butterfly garden and playground are sure to delight. Be prepared to explore after your lunch, because the lands of this marsh will simply captivate you.
