Cincinnati is known for many things, some more favorable than others. But one of our specialties happens to stir up quite a bit of passion in the Queen City and (of course) it has to do with food. Cincinnati's famous chili may not be considered "real chili" by outsiders, but we know it as one of the best meals around. Whether it's piled atop spaghetti with a mountain of cheese or spread across a hot dog, our chili is unique, and it's the best. Since it is so popular around here - and has been for years - naturally there are plenty of local spots where you can find this classic Cincy dish. We rounded up the ten best chili parlors in the city and highly recommend you give this chili trail a try, because it's all you've ever dreamed of and more!
1. Camp Washington Chili - 3005 Colerain Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45225
Open since 1940, this iconic chili parlor moved to its current location in 2000. The memorable sign outside gives you a clue about the deliciousness that you'll find inside. You will not only find unbelievable chili, but a lovable diner atmosphere and plenty of friendly, hungry people.
2. Blue Jay Restaurant - 4154 Hamilton Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45223
The Blue Jay can be found in Northside and is a true local gem. Family-owned and operated, the chili is amazing, the atmosphere is even better, and the diversity of delicious food on their menu is the best. Go to try the chili and return to sample everything else.
3. Empress Chili - 3670 Werk Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45248
Rumor has it that it was Empress Chili, a westside favorite, that started it all. Their meaty chili is still loved today and the family-owned location on Werk Road is the ideal spot to try it.
4. Blue Ash Chili - 9565 Kenwood Rd., Blue Ash, OH 45242
It seems that the rest of the country has discovered Blue Ash Chili since its appearance on "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" this past spring, but locals have always known that this classic spot serves an unbelievable 3-way and cheese coney, along with their famous double decker sandwiches and other notable favorites.
5. Skyline Chili - Multiple Locations
It's safe to say that Skyline is the most well-known (and possibly the most-loved) of all Cincinnati chili parlors. Even if it isn't your favorite chili, you have to admit that nothing beats Skyline's cheese and crackers.
6. Gold Star Chili - Multiple Locations
Gold Star is the other powerhouse in the Cincinnati chili world. It differs in many ways from Skyline, and most locals have strong feelings when you put the two up against each other. But there's one Gold Star dish that may surpass Skyline's best efforts: their stellar chili cheese fries.
7. Price Hill Chili - 4920 Glenway Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45238
Price Hill Chili is another local chili institution. Many claim that you'll find the best chili in the city here, but you'll have to visit to see for yourself. One thing for sure - you'll be blown away by the fantastic service and family atmosphere of this lovable diner.
8. Dixie Chili - Multiple Northern Kentucky Locations
You didn't expect Northern Kentucky to not join in the chili fun, did you? Dixie Chili has been around for decades and if you live in Cincinnati, it's worth a trip across the river - even in traffic - to try this local classic.
9. Pleasant Ridge Chili Parlor - 6032 Montgomery Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45213
Pleasant Ridge has its own claim to chili fame with this retro parlor. After you've fallen in love with their take on the chili and the friendly atmosphere, try the gravy cheese fries - they are epic.
10. Chili Time Restaurant - 4727 Vine St., Cincinnati, OH 45217
