The holiday season is a blast in Cincinnati, especially with all of the festive events happening downtown. The hub of our city is bustling quite a bit these days, from The Banks to OTR and everywhere in between, so it makes sense that the holidays are extra special in downtown Cincinnati. The main event of the year takes place on Fountain Square with the massive Christmas tree that comes alive with a million colorful lights. This tree, and all of the fun to be had around it, is a great reason to head downtown this winter.
Fountain Square is a beloved destination in Cincinnati and is a wonderful spot to visit all year long. The fountain, of course, makes it enchanting on its own, but around Christmas time, another eye-catcher joins the fun.
What is likely the largest Christmas tree in Cincinnati arrives each year at Fountain Square and proudly sits right on the corner of 5th and Vine. It's a breathtaking sight from the moment it's placed.
This year, on November 23rd, the tree will officially light up at the Light Up the Square event, which begins at 6 p.m. Be sure to get a good spot near the tree for the best photo ops.
Live music kicks off the evening and you can also enjoy ice skating, food, drinks, and plenty of festivities. Santa will make a one-of-a-kind appearance before the evening wraps up with a fireworks show over the city.
The enormous tree then remains lit for the remainder of the holiday season and will take your breath away if you venture downtown this winter. It's difficult to miss and will surely put you in the holiday spirit.
If you can't make it on the 23rd, still take advantage of all of the fun happening on Fountain Square over the upcoming weeks. The ice skating rink is open daily and costs $6 for admission and $4 to rent skates.
There are many other festivals and events on Fountain Square in December, so there's always something going on. You can learn more about upcoming events here.
