The defining store in the thrift world is well known and popular for good reason. Goodwill is the grandfather of resale, with color-coded tag sales and inventory that is always moving and changing. If you're a savvy secondhand buyer you can find a hidden gem or valuable here.
2. Mission Thrift - 2330 Mission St, San Francisco, 94110
A cool and wacky spot to visit in the Mission district. Everything here party clothes, costumes, retro outfits, and to of course summertime and spring wear. Also, there are excellent accessories and very reasonable prices overall compared to many city thrift and vintage shops.
3. Crossroads Trading - 2123 Market St, San Francisco, 94114
This Castro location offers a lot of diverse styles. All in all, Crossroads Buys, Sells & Trades the best in contemporary fashion for women and men. Crossroads is definitely on the high end of thrift shops. Lots of good style choices, clothes are split up on the racks by style (jackets, sweaters, shirts, skirts, etc.)
4. Held Over - 1543 Haight St, San Francisco, 9411
Held Over is right in the middle of the Haight neighborhood. More importantly, Held Over stands out with a well-managed selection of thrifty, cool styles sorted out by era. Come and check it out!
5. Buffalo Exchange - 1555 Haight St, San Francisco, 94117
Buffalo Exchange has locations around the Bay area and multiple locations around the city. You can sell men's and women's clothing and accessories for cash or trade (in-store credit) on the spot. This place is very popular, so be prepared to fight for a spot to shop or sell your stuff.
6. Relove Vintage & Modern Resale - 1815 Polk St, San Francisco, 94109
The Nob Hill/Polk Gulch area has some newer thrift shops catering to hip buyers and curiosity seekers. Relove offers vintage, modern and designer clothing, shoes and accessories for men and women.
7. SF Flea Market - 1166 Shafter Ave, Ste C, San Francisco, 94124
This place is part flea market and thrift store. This store offers an antique wonderland, filled with a variety of well priced unique antiques. This place is open Saturday from 10AM -5PM or by appointment Wednesday through Friday.
8. Community Thrift Store - 623 Valencia St, San Francisco, 94110
This is not only a wonderful thrift store, but a nonprofit. Community Thrift Store is a donates to over 200 charities in San Francisco.They carry high-quality items with lots of fun, funky, surprising finds in both clothing and housewares.
9. Wasteland - 1660 Haight St, San Francisco, 94117
This is the spot for the trendiest clothes and items in the vintage/thrift world. However, be prepared for some attitude because this is a designer minded thrift shop. Essentially, Wasteland is a shop for the person who is seeking quality vintage clothing and is willing to pay a price for it.
10. Out of the Closet - 1498 Polk St, San Francisco, 94109
It is hard to miss this store and for good reason. The sells a variety of items at very reasonable prices. Out of the Closet raises money to fund the medical services AIDS Healthcare Foundation, so this helps the community as well.
11. Painted Bird - 1360 Valencia St, San Francisco, CA 94111
This is a shop that would not be out of place in Portland or Brooklyn. The store offers hip and obscure clothes, accessories, and sunglasses. If you want to buy and sell or trade clothes here then even better.
