Northern California may not get as frigid as it does in say, the Midwest, during winter but that doesn't mean we don't get fairly cold days. Especially in higher elevation towns, the temperature can drop substantially during the winter months. Well, this hot springs resort in NorCal offers the perfect way of warming up during the cold season. Relax in one of their heated pools while taking in the beautiful surroundings. You're definitely going to want to put this on your bucket list this winter. There's nothing suite so luxurious as basking in the warm waters of a naturally heated pool during the chilly winter months.
Indian Springs is a historic Spanish-style resort which features a spa and two glorious naturally heated pools. It's located in beautiful Calistoga and is the perfect place to spend a brisk winter day.
But these aren't just any old pools. They're naturally heated by the four thermal geysers found on the property. These geysers provide a constant stream of hot mineral water which has many health benefits in addition to its cozy temperature.
The resort was originally established in 1861, making it California's oldest continuously operated pool. Indian Springs is first and foremost a luxurious overnight retreat. And the two swimming pools are the highlight of the resort. Soak up all those self care minerals in the Mineral Pool or the Buddha Pond, two of the beautiful bathing areas on the property.
People have been coming here since the 19th century to soak in the pool's glorious waters. The thermal water is even thought to have restorative powers. Both pools are fed by the on-site geysers, ensuring a steamy soak.
But don't worry, the water is cooled slightly before being funneled into the pools. Water direct from geysers can burn and Indian Resort is very careful to keep the water soothing but not aggravating.
The Main Pool is by far the most popular of the two pools. This Olympic-sized swimming pool was originally built in 1913. Both pools are kept at a temperature ranging from 82 to 102 degrees, depending on what season it is.
The other pool is the Adult Pool and offers a more quiet and intimate setting for adults only. Both pools are kept open until midnight. You absolutely have to experience a relaxing night-time soak while gazing up at the stars!
Indian Springs is on a large piece of property so there's no light pollution to impact the breadth and glow of the night sky. You'll be overwhelmed by the beauty and enormity of it.
