For the adventuresome, there's an incredible experience that allows you to admire the majesty of California's landscape surrounded by the magic of nighttime.

It's called the Railbikes by Moonlight. This exciting Northern California excursion will immerse you in the splendor of the Redwood Forest of Mendocino County. The coastal "Redwood Route" has stunned visitors with its beauty since 1885... but it's especially magical by moonlight.

The proprietors are locally renowned for their train rides and daytime railbike adventures.

Riders will spend one hour at Glen Blair Junction, with half that time spent basking in the fading light of dusk and half spent immersed in starlight.

You won't believe how beautiful the Pudding Creek Estuary is when bathed in pure silver moonlight. Nighttime truly adds a degree of mystique to this otherwise familiar landscape!

The excursion usually runs from 8 p.m. to roughly 9:50 p.m., and there is a fairly reasonable fee for the bike rentals.

Single riders must be at least 18 years of age. All passengers must be at least three years old. This makes a great family activity.

The railbikes have room for two riders, and riders are required to wear closed-toe shoes and a helmet.

You can bring your own helmet for the excursion, or you can borrow a sanitized helmet from the Skunk Train staff.

Remember to bring water to fuel up, and be prepared for the beauty of the Redwood Forest to take your breath away.
