When was the last time you paid a visit to one of Northern California's beautiful farms? If it wasn't recent, then you'll definitely want to plan something soon, and we found just the place. Our region of the state is full of small but amazing farms, many of which are open to the public for tours and visits. Jollity Farm is no exception. This working goat farm and creamery welcomes visitors to come spend time with their herd of adorable goats, and maybe sample some cheese while you're at it! This is a destination the whole family will love so be sure to check it out.
The next time you feel like planning a fun and unique outing with the family, consider a visit to Jollity Farm in Garden Valley. This adorable goat farm and creamery is open to visitors and stopping by always makes for a delightful experience.
Tucked away in a beautiful wooded area within the Sierra foothills, Jollity Farm is a real gem. It's boasted as the only farmstead cheese producer within 50 miles of Sacramento, meaning that ALL cheese produced here is made from milk collected on the very same farm.
Jollity Farm is a real working goat farm, but it feels perfectly quaint at the same time. That may have something to do with the fact that the farm's owner, Charley, knows each of the goats by name, feeds and milks them himself, and makes each batch of goat cheese by hand.
Cheese availability changes with the season, so keep that in mind if you have your eyes set on something particular. In general, chèvre is available year round, feta is available spring through fall, cajeta is available in fall and winter, and raw milk cheese is available in the cooler months.
However, our favorite thing about Jollity Farm is that it's open to the public! Visitors are welcome to stop by during their business hours, which are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Guests who'd like to watch the milking process are encouraged to drop by during the morning between 9:00 a.m. and noon specifically.
Although the farm is always welcoming of visitors, keep in mind that the staff may not have time to stop what they're doing and answer questions. If you'd like a more official, in-depth visit, you can always plan to attend a regular farm tour which is offered from spring through fall. Tours costs just $15 for adults and $5 for children.
Don't forget to drop by the on-site store where you can sample some of the farm's own cheese, and even purchase some to take home with you. The farm's selection of goat milk soaps and lotions are also available to purchase. Learn more about Jollity Farm here and be sure to drop by soon!
