Where can I find crystals in Northern California?  

There are lots of ideal locations for rockhounding in Northern California, as well as the rest of the state. After all, life in California is as big as the state itself, and rockhounding is a delightful way to appreciate its long natural history. Some of the best places to find crystals in Northern California include places like many of the beaches in Crescent City, such as Pebble Beach, the old Keystone Mine in the Rockland District (you can find copper nuggets there), various points along Diamond Creek, and many more.  

What kind of minerals can be found in Northern California? 

There is a nice, long list of natural wonders in Northern California – and we think its amazing variety of rocks, minerals, and resources is worth celebrating. Some of the more common minerals in Northern California include agate, chalcedony, petrified wood, jasper, moonstone, copper, gold, arsenopyrite, and even the occasional diamond. You can find places to legally and ethically collect specimens of your own in Northern California if you know where to look. Luckily, we did the footwork for you! Be sure to rockhound in places like the banks of the Trinity River, Siskiyou County, Trinity County, Modoc County, and Mendocino County, to name a few. It is illegal to collect any specimens found at the state or National Parks, though some do have specific, designated areas where collecting is allowed in certain amounts. Always be sure to double-check before you go – make sure to collect with earth in mind!
