When choosing a city in which to settle down and start a family, there are many factors to consider. Proximity to big cities, ranking of local public schools, and the regional weather are all things to think about. Here are six cities in Northern California that do well on all those fronts.
1. El Dorado Hills
This city places a big emphasis on families and good education. The local community services district puts on several holiday events throughout the year for children. Nearby Folsom Lake also offers many recreational outdoor activities.
2. Clovis
This San Joaquin Valley community offers a great mix of affordable housing, excellent public schools, and community atmosphere. Check out the citywide rodeo and the farmers markets.
3. Folsom
With great public schools that earned high marks on the most recent Academic Performance Index report, Folsom is a nice community for middle to upper-middle class families. Folsom Lake and the American River offer plenty of outdoorsy things to do.
4. Dublin
This suburban community offers easy access to San Francisco thanks to the local BART station. And Dublin Hills Regional Park is perfect for hikers and bikers.
5. Orinda
Excellent schools and short commutes into San Francisco make this city a popular option among young families. Professional shows take place year-round at the California Shakespeare Theater.
