Almost everywhere you look these days you see advertisements for "Taco Tuesdays" - it's that official/unofficial designated day of the week that these handheld folded sandwiches brimming with everything from beef to chicken, pork, jack fruit, and more bring in crowds from far and wide. But if you like fish tacos, then you simply must head on over to The Fishetarian Fish Market for the best fish tacos you’ve ever eaten in Northern California!
The Fishetarian Fish Market is located at 599 CA-1 (Highway 1) in Bodega Bay, about an hour and 15 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge, and 20 minutes south of the town of Jenner.
When the restaurant’s proprietors founded the enterprise in 2012, their desire was to offer healthy fish options where there didn’t seem to be many, as Bodega Bay was, at that time, a somewhat remote beach town.
The fish and seafood for your meal isn’t simply plucked out of the water. It is mindfully, lovingly, and carefully selected based on sustainable fishing and farming practices.
And whenever possible, all of the accompanying foodstuffs (vegetables, and so forth) are sourced from local and organically grown purveyors. Take a gander at these succulent rockfish tacos (called "Shane’s Tacos—after the husband of this husband-and-wife team—on the menu) resting on a bed of gluten-free corn tortillas and topped with chipotle mayo, taco sauce, pico de gallo, cilantro, green onions, and if you desire, avocado too!
The prawn tacos are another crowd pleaser here as well.
They are made with only the finest gulf prawns and served with all of the aforementioned goodies as the fish tacos. Like all of the fish and seafood on the menu, they are carefully hand-selected by Shane from each day’s catch, and prepared using a non-GMO sunflower frying oil.
Guests really appreciate the fact that everything on the menu is made fresh to order.
You’ll also find so much more than tacos on the menu, including some of the best raw oysters around. Other preparation varieties include with housemade barbecue sauce, the garlic butter oysters, and the "Maui Wowie" oysters – grilled with a special sweet and spicy Maui Wowie sauce.
Imagine sinking your teeth into this fresh and oh so delicious Ahi Tuna Sandwich!
Here, a thick piece of tuna steak is seared to perfection and served with wasabi mayo, spiced pickled onions, and a kale slaw mix, then placed into an amazing Ciabatta roll. Other menu items include a Dungeness crabmeat sandwich, grilled or fried rockfish sandwich, clam chowder in a bread bowl (there’s a gluten-free bread bowl option as well), fish ‘n chips, calamari ‘n chips, and two vegetarian options, just to name a few.
On a beautiful warm weather day, you can enjoy your meal on the outside patio area facing the water.
The restaurant also serves a delicious seaweed salad, Caesar salad, salmon spread, and ceviche side dishes. Even the tableware at the Fishetarian Fish Market is biodegradable, compostable, and recyclable.
