There are plenty of big and small towns all across North Dakota. Each has their own attractions and reasons to visit. Many are top destinations for various reasons, known regionally, statewide, or even nationwide. However, there are some hidden gems that only the locals know about and love. You may have heard of Wishek before and never gave it a second thought, but it deserves some more attention.
This small town has just about 1,000 residents, but it's not just the small town charms that make it a great destination.
Nearby lakes and natural areas make it a prime spot for tons of outdoor fun.
Green Lake and Beaver Lake are popular spots for boating, fishing, camping, and more.
Add the fact they are simply stunning this time of year, and you have a beautiful, quiet trip to look forward to.
Hunting is one of Wishek's specialties. The area surrounding it is perfect for all kinds of hunting.
The area is also rich with history and dotted with old buildings that each hold their own stories.
Other than the great outdoor areas, the town itself has some awesome stops. For a bite to eat, you can try the Wrangle Cafe and Grill on Beaver Avenue, or pull up to the McTwist Drive-In and grab a refreshing ice cream cone.
Camping is available at both the Beaver Lake State Park and Green Lake - part of which is the Doyle Memorial State Recreation Area.
