Hidden among the vast prairies and farmlands of North Dakota, there is a little spot that is any nature lover's paradise. This serene and beautiful place is called the Turtle Mountain State Forest, and is one of only a few other state forests in North Dakota. About 7,500 acres of forested land makes up the entire area.
Just nearby you can see Lake Metigoshe and all of the numerous creeks, ponds, and other water around it, including places like Strawberry Lake.
The trails that weave through the forest will take you to enchanting locations full of trees, plants, and plenty of wildlife to see along the way. It's also one of the best places to camp in North Dakota, offering an experience that is difficult to find anywhere else in the state.
There are multiple campgrounds and plenty of opportunities for fun activities like canoeing on the lakes or hiking the trails.
The Turtle Mountain Byway overlooks a lot of the state forest and is another option to experience this spot, with views like this old barn in a secluded spot among the trees.
With the accessibility to all of the lakes and ponds in the area, surrounded by the gorgeous woodlands, you can't pass up a chance to see this place for yourself. It is truly a slice of paradise in a place where dense forests aren't that common.
