There are so many cute and quaint small towns to be discovered in North Dakota. Most of them are relatively unknown outside of their counties, but each has their own unique attributes that make them worth finding. This little town in central North Dakota is a perfect example of this. Not many people have probably heard of it, but you will easily fall in love with its small town charms.
Gackle, North Dakota is a small town on the edge of Logan County. The name, while unusual, simply came from a local farmer's name when the town was founded.
It was founded in 1904 and has never had a population much higher than 600 people. The population as of the 2010 census was only 310 residents.
They are proudly home of the Orioles, their local school mascot.
This town claims itself as one of the best places for duck hunting. It is surrounded by countless lakes that make this the optimal place.
Within the town itself are unique, older buildings that make it so charming and delightful. The Krieger Theater, shown below, is a good example.
This includes one of the North Dakota small town essentials - a Tastee-Freez! It wouldn't be a proper small town without a seasonal ice cream spot, after all.
Other lovely spots in Gackle include the local park, A.F. Lehr Park.
This place and the rest of the towns natural, scenic surroundings that include the many lakes and ponds, gently rolling hills, all contribute to making the perfect picturesque small town that fits perfectly in the Peace Garden State.
Gackle is located about 40 miles south west of Jamestown, ND. It's a wonderful place to just pass through and visit, and also a great place to stop if you're taking advantage of its prime duck hunting opportunities.
