When the temps dip and wiggle below freezing and the snow start to fly it's a good time for ice skating in North Dakota. Lace-up your skates and hit the ice at the ice skating rink in this North Dakota park. There was already a myriad of winter activities to do here, but now you can fill your snowy days with even more fun. See the rink for yourself, plus everything else they have to offer this season:
As you can imagine, Icelandic State Park in northeast North Dakota has a decent amount of ice in the winter. From the frozen-over Lake Renwick, popular for ice fishing, to the frosty trees and snowy riverbanks along the Tongue River, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the winter season.
New for this season is an outdoor ice skating rink. It's open during daylight hours and is perfect for some time out on the ice.
The rink is in thanks partially to the Grand Forks Park District and Knight Foundation, both of which donated the boards for the rink.
Along with ice skating, you can also take part in the many other winter activities available at the Icelandic State Park. Ice fishing on the lake is a well-loved winter activity, for one.
The park has a sledding hill that's perfect for hours of classic fun. There are also miles of groomed cross-country skiing trails.
Take on the rest of the winter trails with snowshoes or regular hiking. The park is absolutely stunning year-round, so there are plenty of beautiful natural areas to explore even when they're covered in snow.
With all of these activities and many wonderful things to discover within the park's borders, it might just become your new favorite winter destination for some outdoor fun.
