You gotta love a waterfront seafood shack in North Carolina that does it all. If it's seafood you love, then on North Carolina's vast coastline you have many options for satisfying a craving for fresh-from-the-water seafood. You can buy it yourself at the grocery store (not always the freshest option), head to a local fish market to purchase it to bring home, or go out to eat at one of the vast number of seafood restaurants on the coast.
Or, another option is to go out to eat AND, from the same establishment, buy some fresh seafood to prepare at home for your next meal.
At the Sugar Shack Oyster Bar & Seafood Market in Nags Head, you can do just that. It's part seafood market and part restaurant.
And the views are jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
Located just at the end of the causeway on US 64 at Nags Head, the restaurant and market are perfectly perched alongside the water offering views at least as delicious as the food.
Inside, you'll find a full seafood counter for seafood to go, and a separate counter to order up some made-to-order seafood to eat in the restaurant.
Cozy seating is available at the back of the restaurant with a wall full of windows that make the place bright and airy. Or, you can take it outside on the patio and enjoy the views from there.
Honestly, though, it may be difficult to take your eyes off of the food for very long.
Everything is so scrumptious (even the sides!) that you'll be tempted to down it in as few bites as possible. It's okay... stuff your face, we won't judge.
At the Sugar Shack (a sister to neighboring Sugar Creek restaurant) you can get your seafood fried or broiled to perfection.
From appetizers to sandwiches, Po'Boys, fried platters of shrimp, tuna, oysters, clams, and grilled plates of mahi-mahi, tuna, salmon, shrimp and more, you're sure to find more than one thing on the menu that strikes a chord with your appetite.
Then sit right down and enjoy that marvelous view while you eat!
Time your meal just right and you may be looking at THIS view! Whoa!
After your meal, pop back inside and get some fresh fish for your next meal.
You can also order certain things from the market and have them cooked to go (think steamer pot, shrimp, oysters).
