The granite formations hiding at the heart of one of North Carolina's smallest parks, Big Rock Nature Preserve in Charlotte, are an incredible, historic natural wonder waiting for you to experience. Containing the largest example of granite extrusions in Mecklenburg County, this lovely 22-acre space also has a four-mile tributary to McAlpine Creek separating it from Interstate Highway 485. This little trek is worth the drive to some mysterious and mighty landmarks.
Due to archaeological evidence of American Indian habitation dating back 7,000 years, the entirely forested site is a Historic Landmark.
This tiny park is located on Elmstone Drive, just outside the I-485 loop and beyond the Thornhill Members Club. Parking is on the street in a neighborhood.
