While technically not inside a gas station, the French bistro is right next door; in fact, the two spaces even share restrooms. This hidden gem of a kitchen in Franklin, North Carolina offers world-class dining, proving once again that great cuisine can be found in the most unexpected of places.
If you didn't know to look for it, you might completely drive past Caffé REL. After all, it's in one of the most unassuming location, attached directly to a gas station. Yet those in the know would agree that this restaurant is worth the drive from anywhere in North Carolina. There's a lot of hype around this particular restaurant, partly because of its surprising location, but mostly due to its above-and-beyond service and stellar menu. By all accounts, Caffé REL lives up to the hype.
While the menu centers around French fare, you'll find other influences on the menu. The homemade, complimentary bread that begins your meal is served with an Italian-style marinara sauce and linguine carbonara is one of the most popular menu items. Another must? The shrimp and grits, a nod to one of the Tar Heel State's staples.
So who's behind Caffé REL? Husband-and-wife duo Tracy and Katie Passmore, with decades of experience and a shared love of food and family, are committed to bringing their guests the best dining experience possible. Their menu recommendations would be a shareable plate of calamari followed by the French pot roast.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. Why I Love It: Fact: Airplanes are notoriously dry, dry, dry. No matter how much water I drink both before and during the flight, I always find myself in a hydration deficit for days.
