The Hamptons are considered the ultimate Long Island destination, but locals in nearby Greenport, as well as tourists who stumble across this hidden gem on the North Fork, don't usually mind that. Sleepy charm looks good on this beachside village right on the Peconic River. But with a thriving restaurant and arts scene, you also won't run out of things to do.
Head east across Long Island, and you'll eventually reach Greenport, a quiet beachside town with the location, outdoor activities and great food to become your new favorite weekend escape.
Greenport is home to a number of beautiful beachside parks that you could walk for hours. If you’re in the area, check out Fifth Street Beach and Park, Goldsmith’s Inlet Park or Ruth Oliva Preserve at Dam Park.
If you find yourself in this quaint beachside escape in the evening, head to Pearl Restaurant or Demarchelier Bistro for a romantic dining experience. If you're in the mood for a casual, heartier meal, grab a pie from 1943 Pizza Bar.
And don’t forget to stop by Greenport Creamery for some delightful homemade ice cream.
Take an hour to peruse some of Greenport’s art galleries featuring work from talented local artists like Antoinette Janecki and Cindy Pease Roe.
Or just take a relaxing stroll along the Peconic River and enjoy the scenery.
As one of the easternmost towns in all of Long Island, the peacefulness of this picturesque area will make you want to stay for much longer than just one weekend.
You won't find many places better for finding a secluded area on the water and sunbathing to your heart's content.
It's one of the best spots on Long Island if you want to enjoy a day out on the water, and you'll have access to plenty of beaches and parks in the area to enjoy with friends.
To get a feel for the region around Greenport, check out Kontokosta Winery or spend a day at Island's End Golf and Country Club. Enjoy the scenery of Inlet Pond County Park. Or if you're willing to make the drive, head out on an adventure to the beautiful Orient Beach State Park.
