SafeWise, an independent crime statistics review site, recently published its annual list of safest cities in each state. Overall, New York's violent crime rate of 3.6 per 1,000 residents is lower than the national average. New York's property crime rate went down this year to 13.7 per 1,000 residents, one of the lowest rates in the country.
