One of the bittersweet perks of living in New York is that our state is so big in size. With so many beautiful attractions and places to see, it's easy for true treasures to remain hidden from the majority of our residents. Hiding out in the western region of our state right in the Southern Tier, you can discover a unique park that not many of our residents know about.
Easy to find once you know where you're going, Rock City Park in Olean is a magical place to visit.
Right off of the road you'll see the entrance pictured above to Rock City Park. A short drive down the road, you'll also see the signs pictured above that detail what is waiting for you!

This park is a great place for visitors of all ages to get out and enjoy a true adventure that's filled with history. Set back from the road, many drive by the park's entrance not realizing what true treasures are hiding out in the scenic forest.

The 23-acre park features the largest formation of Quartz conglomerate in the entire world.
That's right! The Quart conglomerate, also known as "pudding stone", is a rare sight to see. The park features well-maintained trails that will literally bring you over New York's roots.
The rock formations that you see throughout the park were formed billions of years ago and have long remained a hidden treasure of our state.
Filled with history and open to the public since 1890, one of the most interesting things you'll discover is a 1,000 ton boulder that's balanced on top of another large rock formation.
While exploring the trails of Rock City Park, you'll come across bits and pieces of the park's history. Many will be surprised to hear that the serene space once featured an amusement park, luxury hotel and even a dance pavilion! The park also served as a fortress for the Native Americans during one point in history.
The park takes roughly one hour to explore and is open from now until October 31st!
The park opened for the season on May 1st and will remain open until Halloween of this year. While the park is great for visitors of all ages to explore, you will walking through crevices and doing a bit of climbing, so you'll want to dress comfortably and have on a good pair of shoes!
The park is a local favorite and once you visit you'll understand why. The magical scenic views that you'll experience all throughout the park are one of a kind. Some people even get married here!
Hours: 9AM to 6PM
Prices: $5 dollars per person, $3 dollars for children ages 6 -12. The park also features discounts for groups and seniors.
