Tucked away in plain sight on Delaware Avenue, Temple Beth Zion in Buffalo is the largest Jewish congregation in all of Western New York.
Recently added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2018, Temple Beth Zion is one of the most notable spiritual destinations within the City of Buffalo.
One of the first unique things that you'll notice about this temple is its shape.
It's made up of 10 massive, scalloped walls representing the Ten Commandments that reach heights of over 60 feet and are set at an angle as to represent arms reached out in prayer.
Once you're inside the temple, you'll continue to be floored by both its architecture and its extensive history.
Existing here in Buffalo since 1850, the temple was designed by architect Max Abramovitz with the help of Ben Shahn, who created the stained glass windows in Temple Beth Zion.
The temple is even equipped with its own 4,000 organ pipe!
