Now that summer’s in full swing, you’ll be probably be heading to New Mexico’s swimming holes and waterparks. However, there’s another water-related activity you may not have realized was an option in the Land of Enchantment: a boat cruise.
Carlsbad Cruises operates boats that take you for a relaxing trip along the Pecos River.
Gaze down into the clear water…
…admire the houses lining the river, and learn a little about the history of Carlsbad via the audio narration.
Drift under the railway bridge…
… And see the Pecos River Flume, an irrigation aqueduct that is surprisingly scenic, especially around sunset.
There’s literally nothing you need to do except kick back and savor the ride.
Carlsbad Cruises offers two boats. One is capable of holding 49 people, while the other is a 20-seater pontoon, which is great if you’re with a larger group.
People of all ages can enjoy a jaunt down the river.
River cruises can be pricey but this experience is much more affordable than average, with tickets for adults costing $10, and ones for children under 12 years-old costing $5. (Kids under two ride for free).
Tours take place several times per day, at 1:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 5:00 .p.m., and 7:00 p.m.

After you’ve let your troubles drift away, you can continue your low-key day by having a picnic at Lake Carlsbad Recreation Area. If you’re ready for a dip, stop by the swimming beach…
