Calling all animal lovers! If you're looking for a fun family outing that is inexpensive, close to home, and incorporates your child's love for animals, you'll want to head over to the Wildlife West Nature Park.
Located a short drive from Albuquerque in Edgewood, Wildlife West is an intriguing park that doubles as an animal sanctuary.
The 122-acre park is home to 24 different species, ranging from coyotes and bobcats to mule deer and porcupines.
Founded in 1994, its mission is to rescue and provide a permanent home for wildlife unable to be released back into the wild.
This includes animals injured in accidents or rescued from a grim life in captivity. Once the animals go through rehabilitation, they are provided with a custom habitat that engages their natural selves.
When visiting, you can learn about each animal, including their individual backstories and facts about their species.
In the meantime, volunteers are also available to answer the endless questions your kids may have...
...host meet and greets with some of the animals...
When was the last time you were able to say you kissed a mule deer?
...and even host demonstrations and shows, such as watching free-flight birds of prey.
The park also typically hosts annual festivals, educational events, and more.
Have you had the chance to visit this park? What was your experience like?
