This is your sign that it's time for another road trip! However, this isn't going to be a road trip to visit museums, see incredible rock formations, or enjoy scenic views. This is a road trip meant for one thing and one thing only: eating at some of the best Mexican restaurants throughout New Mexico. Your adventure starts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, before winding your way south, then west, through the state.
1. Posa's El Merendero Tamale Factory & Restaurant (Santa Fe)
Posa's El Merendero Tamale Factory & Restaurant has been making incredible handmade tamales since 1955. While the tamales are a must-try, you can't leave without trying their enchiladas and quesadillas too! Posa's also caters events and you can buy their incredible tamales online, which is perfect because you will never want to go too long without them after you give them a try.
2. El Pinto Restaurant (Albuquerque)
El Pinto Restaurant has been a New Mexico staple since 1962. If you haven't been, you have probably still tried the restaurant's salsa, which is made on-site in a factory that makes more than 3 million jars every year!
3. Pena's Place (Ruidoso)
Pena's Place can be found in Ruidoso, New Mexico and is a great place to stop for your third meal of this road trip. With friendly staff and a delicious breakfast menu, there is no better way to start your second day of this indulgent road trip than at Pena's Place.
4. Rizo's Mexican Restaurant (Alamogordo)
Rizo's Mexican Restaurant is your next stop. With menu items ranging from tortes and regional plates, all the way to sizzling fajitas and smothered California burritos, be sure to come with a big appetite.
5. El Camino Real (Deming)
Now you'll start heading west, and El Camino Real will be your destination. With friendly service and a huge menu, you'll be sad your trip is winding down.
6. Ramona's Cafe (Lordsburg)
Your last stop on this trip is way out west in Lordsburg, New Mexico. Ramona's Cafe is a little hole-in-the wall with some of the state's best food, and it's the perfect restaurant to end your tour with.
This is a special kind of road trip that you will be talking about for years. Be sure to let us know what your favorite restaurant on the list was!
