Is there anything better than getting lost in a good book? Whether it's a sunny day in the shade or staying cozy inside during a winter storm, there's nothing quite like the escape of getting to know new characters and places through the written word. That's why we love the thrill that a library offers. In addition to books, many also offer events, classes and even outdoor gear rentals! Today, we're looking at the best library in New Mexico. It's perfect for an escape from every day, no matter what's happening outside.
We think (and we hope you'll agree!) that the best library in New Mexico is the Main Public Library, located right in the heart of downtown Albuquerque.
It was designed by local architect George Pearl in 1975, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2019.
It was built in the "Brutalist" style of architecture, which means the sprawling library is designed to maximize space on the inside by allowing for changes whenever necessary. Additionally, there are movable walls and modular areas allowing for flexibility throughout. Pretty smart for a space that needs to evolve with the community!
Of course, we're really here for the books! They've got all you'd expect, including reference, fiction, non-fiction and tons of multimedia. Not only are there plenty of pages here, but also lots of space to enjoy them in.
Of course, you can tuck yourself away in a secret corner. Or, you can enjoy the sunshine in one of the many outdoor spaces.
We love the many areas for kids. As a matter of fact, these are some of the most fun places in the library! Let the imagination run wild no matter when your age by spending time in one of the ever-changing displays and features.
We love enjoying a good book at the library. However, we also know there's nothing like enjoying a book before bed. For that reason, we love the book fairs that take place here, too.
Although there are plenty of attractions to enjoy here in Albuquerque, we love visiting the best library in New Mexico right downtown.
The Main Public Library in Albuquerque is open to the public and perfect for spending the entire day. You can learn more about what they offer by visiting their website. They can be reached on 505-768-5141.
While you're in town, plan on spending some extra time exploring when you're not in the library. This gas station turned diner will be your new favorite spot to fill your tummy.
